People are struggling to find joy and something to look forward to each day. The real problem is that we’re so disconnected to who we truly are and this has to change.
When we were little, it was so easy to express ourselves creatively and authentically, and as we grew up, we let go of some of the things that really mattered to us in order to fit in.
We were told that taking care of ourselves was selfish and a waste of time. Or, we even learned that we were unworthy of prioritizing our well-being and our mental-health, and that’s something only few could do.
With that, we often postpone rest to moments where we are already feeling exhausted. We postopone self-care for when we are already sick or burnout. We postpone doing the things that we love and brings us joy just to our days off, and we postpone our dreams for the future, forgeting that life is happening now.
What can we do differently? How can we change this pattern of just surviving when we could actually be living and thriving?
These were some of the questions that I asked myself while dealing with a severe case of depression and burnout. Something had to change and Art was my answer. Even finding just a few minutes a day to do something that I truly enjoyed was so soothing and healing for my soul and my body. Art making was always there for me and showed me that I could feel like myself again when creating.
We live in a world that normalizes feeling anxious and tired all the time.
“But what if I don’t consider myself creative or an artist? There’s no hope for me then?”
I believe that everyone can create and have their own way of expressing their creativity. It may just look different from what we were brainwashed to believe about what creativity is.
I believe that having fun and finding joy in the process of making is more important than having a ‘pretty’ artwork.
I believe that daily creative, mindful moments will allow you to show up in life from a filled cup.
I believe that creativity can help you feel stronger, calmer, more capable and self-aware.
I believe that art can help you manage stress, improve your communication, become more imaginative, hopeful and resourceful - helping you co-create an exciting and fulfilling life!
